Day 23 - Michigan's "UP" (Upper Peninsula)

It was hard to wake up this morning for some reason. I think there is beer in the air in the Milwaukee MSA.  I got on the road heading back north into Michigan but my bike and I took a beating on the lousy roads first. I guess the winter weather freezes the substrate and it screws up the roads but it was bad. And the weather was crappy this morning - cold, wet and overcast. What's going on? It's August for God's sake! We are supposed to be complaining about the heat! I had to put on another layer to stay warm.
I had to be creative to get my bike in this picture as it was right on a major highway with no shoulder.

I entered Michigan around noon and stopped by the visitor center and talked to this wonderful smart-ass of a lady there. For example, when I asked her for her name and she said "No, you go get your own, this one is mine!" She caught me way off guard and I laughed my ass off.
Lady with an unknown name because she wanted to keep it.

I was so glad to be out of Wisconsin - sorry Julie and Tony.

The drive across the UP was great - sun, great scenery and not to much traffic. I drove right through my intended stop because I was in such a good place and I dint want to stop. I drove all the way to the Mackinaw bridge. I will cross the bridge tomorrow.
I miss Mother Nature.

I turn south tomorrow for the last time and for the last leg of this trip. I will be home a week from today. I can't wait to see my dogs and sit on my couch and sleep in my bed and see my family and friends.

  1. Amazing! Always wondered about the Upper Peninsular. BTW I love the pix of the people you meet along the way.
