After a quick breakfast and a short ride to the trailhead, Beth and I hiked up to a lake near the Swiftwater Pass and then sat on a blanket to talk and use the binoculars to find mountain sheep and the elusive wild moose. It was a beautiful day and as we were counting our blessings Beth gave all the signs of a heart attack except she was smiling and pointing. And so I turned around to look and there she was.
At first she was with her calf but it got nervous and ran back into the woods.
What a creature - gangly, mean, very fast and very smart. After about an hour of watching the moose we headed back to the hotel. Beth bought two wTer bottles which we promptly filled with Huckleberry margaritas and then jumped on a tour bus to see the sights around the whole area. 5 hours later we were back, fully informed. One of the saddest moments was seeing all the fires that are burning this beautiful park.
Smoke was covering the whole southeastern valley and the surrounding plains. I hope they stay safe and put it out quickly.
This picture is of Chief Mountain that belongs to the Blackfeet nation. A lot of great history for them on that mountain top.
Being that today was our last day we felt it only right to have one last huckleberry margarita and so we did. We wake up early tomorrow to head out!
